A bull shark has become an unexpected victim of Cyclone Debbie after it was found in a puddle after flooding in north Queensland.

WIN News Townsville journalist Philip Calder found the metre-and-a-half bull shark on Thursday morning in a puddle in Ayr, just north of where Debbie made landfall earlier this week.

The shark was found dead after possibly becoming stranded as water surges through the area caused pockets of flooding.

Is there anywhere in Australia where it's actually safe to go open water swimming?

In a few beaches there are shark nets to stop them getting close to the swimmers. I read recently most of the shark attacks are at surfers out in open waters. One of our local beaches only 8klm from me had a name change many years ago from Shark Bay to Safety Beach.

DANGER: Palm Cove is closed due to the capture of an Irukandji in the stinger enclosure, while Clifton Beach and Green Island were closed after swimmers were stung by Irukandji. PICTURE: STEWART MCLEAN

LIFEGUARDS will closely watch the water today following the closure of four beaches due to there being a high risk of potentially deadly jellyfish stings.

Other than these there are more in our waters

The biggest problem is the people who go to these areas do not understand or take notice of all the warning signs.

Tim That big Crocs sign at Cape York is about 500mts from the very Tip of Australia and the local children always swam in front of that sign.

In that area the wild pigs came to the beach to eat the fish that were close to the shore and the Crocs came to get a feed of fresh Pork.
I forget to mention big sharks were in the same area as well.

That is how you launched a boat to go fishing in that area.

Holy bull shark and crocs and snakes and jelly fish..

Looks so exotic and relaxing :)

Our weather is rubbish but We are very lucky in the uk when it comes to dangerous wildlife, adder snakes are about it..

On the other hand your beaches look a little bit cleaner than ours :)

During the summer period many of the popular beaches are cleaned every day. During the bad weather we get plenty of polution on the beaches washed in through the drains and river though its getting far better all the time.

Blue-ringed octopuses are among the deadliest animals in the sea. There are plenty in our area.

Those Blue Ringers are in the rock pools and naturally young children pick the rocks up and if not warned they can touch them but they are fast movers and move away as soon as there is movement in their area.

Rosebud today and yesteryear not much has changed over the years.
