    Hi welcome to GBG :)

I never removed the stocking and just covered it with sphag moss.

The reason I used this method was the type of substrate used.. Eco complete with fert tabs.

Personally if you have have aqua soil I would recommend version 2 of how to make a Wabi kusa ball, its messy but more practical.

Some people just use pure sphag moss with a stone in the middle for weight, the same way ada make them.

I have never made a WK but that is the same answer I would use, by using the leg of the stocking/pantihose you can make different shapes when using Sphagnum moss.

    Guys,
I am now in Singapore until end of August and it's hot and humid here. Plenty of sunlight. I have made couple of WK balls with plants on them. My intention is to grow them and to use them in my planted tank later. I have 5 WK balls (planted) in a tray. Should I put some water in the tray? Should I cover the tray with cling-wrappers (like dry start method) ?

    Appreciate your thoughts. Thank you.

    Hi Ramlangporigi :welcome:

it depends, which plants you used...
If you used aquarium plants I would say yes, at least until all the plants grow well!

Beware your plants from too much sunlight, they may burn or overheat, when being covered...

    Hi Ramlangporigi:welcome:

Mist spray the W-K balls each day to keep them moist. With the cling film leave some air gaps to stop mould from starting. Hope all go's well

    I have this concern.

I have made my WK ball with old ADA aquasoil. Then I wrapped it up with dry Sphagnum Moss. I have grown them for about 3 weeks. I have more than 25 WKs. Now I want to use those WKs in my planted tank. Over time, would the moss decay and foul the tank water? :concern:

Sphagnum moss will certainly rot under water, it would not be very good for your tank, you could also have water parameters concerns from day one as well.

Ive done this a few times and as long as you wraped them well with plenty of moss they will be fine, ada use pure moss with just a stone in the middle. If the moss was going to decay then nothing would be left of the ball. Just a tank full of stones and floating plants?.

As for parameters ive not checked But the ads soil will change those anyway.
