    Lighting Information required please.

My 4 small light unit just died.

I am looking at a LED unit but its a minefield.

Here is the tank its 51cm wide 33cm and about 30cm from under the light to the gravel substrate

The bracket is screw clamped to a piece of glass that is siliconed to the side of the tank.
I can silicone glass on the onside of that piece of glass to support a LED light unit.

I might then have to have the light higher from the substrate about 40cm to get above the plants.

Your help would be greatly appreciated as what type and power I will have to buy
1 Is the side of the tank.
2 Is the glass the light is clamped on.

Keith what manufacturer options are available in Australia?

What is your budget for this? Leds being twice the price here in the UK are a better option if we don't mind spending the money, for example I have Leds on some of my tanks but for my new rack I've chosen t5 ho because I either spend £150 on t5 or over 300 if I choose Leds.

The other option is cfl like the dennerle 11w that I use on my emersed lost world project they are cheaper and as you have seen do the job for moss, liverworts and emersed aquatic plants.

Jason that is very similar to what I have now.

I think I can get them in Aust but its the tube replacement is the big concern.

The Dennerle light I have at the moment is a 24 Watt.

One reason for looking at a LED is they are cheaper to run give a better light and last a lot longer plus are cooler.

Cost $200 or near would not worry me at all as I will be selling a lot of my Aquarium stuff including a unused big Eheim Canister.

The plants I have are worth more than that now.

I am relying a lot on one phone call later today from a LFS owner I can trust.

I agree Leds are better when it comes to most things except the price :). If you happy with the price dennerle now do a led version, I'm using tmc aquaray here and a aquabar both are great. As I mentioned leds are my first choice for the rack it's the price that's holding me back, ill see.

The 5ft Terrascape light will be the old twin tube light I had for the fish tank 1 Daylight and 1 Plant light, naturally new tubes.

I have not made a final decision yet.

Ikea seems to have a terrific collection of LEDs. Here's their local OZ site:

I found one problem with the LEDs in our home talking to a LFS owner yesterday as I have plenty of power surges even with large boards I still get them.

Apprently if one get to the LED I am up for a new unit.

I have found a single T5 unit that fits onto the ends of the tank and has adjustable brackets that will adjust to fit my tank.

All I have to do is extend the height of the side/sides and that's an easy job.
