At the moment all I can say is "Watch this space" As soon as possible I will start posting how I planned, and developed my Terrascape in a 45lt Bay window Aquarium tank. Keith
I hope this works I just found all this information on starting my Terrascape. ORIGINAL Postings Jan 29th 2011 Page .1. OK I know another Journal, but it this first one here for a Terrarium. Question what to do with a good well cared for 45lt Bay window tank, which has in my opinion a fantastic Asian painted base. I realised I would not get very much if I sold it. What to do? Power outlets a huge problem practically fully loaded as it is. That means another tank is out 110% and no discussion entered into. I was thinking of a Terrarium type but which way to go I did not want any water in it at all. One thought was a dry river bed type? General type Terrarium but that's not too plain (I once had a 4ft x 2ft x18ins Terrarium) after a lot of Goggling I found this. This started the old brain thinking again This is the inspiration behind it all. Naturally there will be differences This is the starting point. It could be rather difficult to draw up this time, so here are my thoughts. The substrate is a mix of Perlite, Peat Moss, and a special blend of potting soil. The backing and the two sides (not the Bay Windows) will be the artificial rock wall type as for Aquariums. I know where I can get twiggy Grape Vine at a good price; this will glued to the backing as if growing on a cliff face. The focal point 1/3rd from LH side and 2/3rds from the front will be another golden vine type. On the substrate there will be several pieces of very old rough DW to give me at least two levels. Plants lower level will be mainly small low "Carnivorous type" The rock wall and the twiggy bits will all have "Air growing plants" OK what about lighting?? I can get a twin T5 2ft unit from a Hydroponic shop no problems at all How does all this sound???? All I can say its nothing like that Google photo its taken 3+years and I am sill not happy with the Terrascape. Keith
Hi Keith! Why don't you try to cultivate aquatic plants emersed? This isn't that hard, you just have to keep a high humidity and light air movement, your lighting does not have to be too high. Most of aquatic plants that are used for aquariums can be grown emersed. They change shape and color, but this is also beautifull. And they bloom, most of this plants can bloom emersed. This is nice, I can tell you
Andy To be honest I wanted something totally different from Aquarium and high humidity plants type of tank. I also wanted something totally different, as you will soon see it took along time to develop to get exactly what I wanted even now I am not 100% happy with the ground planting and I am now thinking well out of the square. I am closing this thread as it is in "Members Journals" http://wabi-kusa.com/members-journals/297-terrascape-in-miniature.html Keith
