It takes a lot to beat a big school of the same variety of Cardinals especially the Cardinals.

That's very true, I think they are possibly my favourite fish.

Over the years they were always the best to by compared to the common over bread Tetras.

I was told by an importer they could breed the Cardinals as fast as the common Tetras and, this would lead to a poorer quality Cardinal being breed for the Aquarium trade.

I don't think I've noticed any drop in quality over the years, sure I've seen the odd dodgy batch but that's true of pretty much every species.
I suppose If breeders let the quality drop they'd be putting themselves out of business.

Being an importer he always bought by the 1000s and always very young. He said by doing that he could raise them in a controlled and, a very healthy environment also because of that his survival rate was extremely high.

There are plenty of newcomers to fish keeping to keep them in business as they would sell them world wide.

Gave the shallow a good trim on Sunday. I also removed a lot of moss to expose the hardscape.

Looks more like a big heavy clean up. What is your aim now keep it trimmed to show more of your hardscape or find that illusive perfect "Sweet Spot".

I'm not too sure Keith, it's still evolving. But I think I'll try to keep the hardscape more open.

I think that would be the best thing to do as you can easily let it grow in small sections of the Aquascape just to see how it looks.

Gave the scape it's last trim today, I'm going to let it grow back in a little and then I'll take the final shots.
After that I'll be tearing it down and scaping an ADA Cube Garden 60P.

I've got a brand new ADA Cube Garden to scape, it's a 60P, the measurements are 60x30x36(h)cm.
So same volume as the shallow but different foot print, the shallow is 60x40x25(h)cm.

I notice it is a thicker glass and I assume a higher quality as well.

Is it me or am I just getting old. When I taught Trade maths and a remedial maths to secondary students that is not a cube. A cube has six equal sides.

Yes, I must admit to being a bit confused when I first came across ADA Cube Gardens, I was expected them to be...well...cubes, but most turned out to be hyperrectangles
They are excellent quality and actually very good value for money. The glass is ultra clear low iron, optiwhite, and the silicon work is practically invisible.

Its the very old story if you want quality you must pay for it.

Quick update. The plants are growing at a pace since the last trim.
Took delivery of some new pump dispensers today, easier to use than the original TNC bottles...

It has to be the trimming that makes the plants grow more. They look like the standard pump dispenser plastic container what is the difference?

    Hi Keith, definitely.
Yes they are I bought them off eBay, TNC bottles are like this...

    upload_2018-4-21_8-55-9.

Not so easy to dose smaller amounts accurately. Not that it matters too much but can create unnecessary waste.

All I ever used for liquid ferts was either a small medicine glass or a large eye dropper type.

I once bought dispenser bottles like that at the beauty corner of a local wearhouse they came in a little Travel Kit for lotion or soap.
But after a few months use the head snapped off.. They definitively were designed to survive 2 holidays the least.. Now i'm back using my good old fashion 5ml luer lock glass syringe with a long blund needle, to reach the bottles bottem. Got a 20cm and a 35cm needle. The longest needle i can reach the tanks substrate without getting my hands wet. Makes spot treatment much easier to apply if needed.. :)
