Paraguay I have a very similar tank only difference I only have Succulents Only use a special medium for growing those plants its very open. Most important is don't over water use a fine mist spray as required. Hi Chris, Sempervivums like it dry and light - mediterranian climate. They are european mountain flora. They need cool nights and especially cool winters. Very poor substrate, limey stones. I would only use them in an open outside terrarium, if you want to have them for a longer time. I once had some sempervivums directly planted on pieces of rough mortar (that works well) and had it in an open terrarium on the window sill, but in an unheated room. In winter is was quite cold, no frost. I only sprayed it from time to time. But I have some sempervivum "gardens" outside - they are so easy to care - simply great! No work at all - only if its extremely hot I water them. Their winter look today: They like to grow on pieces of broken concrete, or mortar with a spoonful garden soil. The fat ones of them are not hardy succulents - they will freeze. I have enough of them inside the house, too. Each leaf of those, f. e. echeveria, builds up a new plant.
I intending to split the plants in the pot up and make a small aquarium terranium on a cool windowsill @moss-maniac ,Keith and see if I can get all the necessary compost/soil/gravel/grit to do this and put the rest in the garden after your post and fascinating how they are growing on limey stone. @Chris noticed the compost in pot is really heavy saturated probably been there all summer in the garden centre that's why it was cheap.Good time maybe for a bargain or 2
Right, but change the soil Paraguay - the shops always plant them in the wrong one, here too. They have no good chance in this soil. Maybe intention, in this way they can sell them yearly again..
