Congratulations is it the first girl? Only problem with babies they grow up so fast these days.

I will play around with an old pot tomorrow I have smaller ones, one concern I have with plastic is they can get pot bound.

With the shade cloth no chance as the roots and drainage is excellent and I can make it wider and only a narrow width.

Playing around with the fixed ends at the moment as they will have to have the medium glued on after the rest is siliconed to the glass.

Then its trial time my aim is to have all the backing finished ready to start the potting medium in the next 5-7 days.

FINALLY I am ready to start the backing medium (which I have to mix up yet) another small job will to add a few mounds the RH corner using the expanding foam filler as its impossible to silicone them on.

    BackingreadyformediumRH131115-1_edited-1.
The RH corner end, the twigs a last minute, if it looks OK I will use a few lichen pieces.

    BackingreadyformediumLH131115edited-1_edited-1.

The DW is siliconed to backing as there are two major pieces they are also glued on plus two small corner blocks to hold every thing together.

    Backingreadyformedium131115edited-1.
    Finished and ready to go.

The light brown areas I will be adding the backing medium after the backing is siliconed into position.

Next job the test runs to see which is the best preparation method of attaching the medium.

Then there is one big job clean up outside and a good Vacuum inside.

Evelyn yes several years ago that would have been easy I know I should have more but where, looks like a big hunt in the old orchid house.

Today was one big clean up day the fine particles of the foam were every where and meant every time I came inside it was on my clothes and no matter what I did it came in.

Any more fiddling around will be done in the tank and vacked out when finished.

Tomorrow make the backing medium mix up and do the test run.

Next step I getting every thing ready for the test run in a few days time and see if the Moss holders work.

Sorry I forgot to mention TIME at the moment not enough hrs in the day to get every thing done.

I only require two clear full days and I will be ready to silicone the backing on and the third day to all the finishing touches and, then get ready to add the soil medium and attach the RH cave.

That is if every thing goes to plan.

Jason I have started the Step by Step plan on "Making a Terrascape Backing"

Moss holders problem solved, one more down but more on the way.

It worked far better than I thought and with a slight adjustment it will be 110% perfect to hold the moss and will never be seen.

In fact it will look like the moss is growing on top of the mounds.

In the next few days I will do the test run.

I played around doing a few bits and pieces today mainly positioning the RH cave.

It will be a few days before I do the test run then all of the backing I have to do the moss containers first.

I will post a photo of where I am up to later today.

    BackingFrontal114215.
Every thing ready to start applying the backing medium as soon as I can do the test run and have a full day to work on it. (All to be done outside)

There are five pieces in all that make up the backing when finished all I have to do is Silicone them to the glass and do any touch ups at the joints.

The LH DW is siliconed to the foam and the RH will be siliconed after the backing is attached to the glass.

    BackingLH14215_edited-1.

The LH end, the DW cave which has two pieces is siliconed onto the backing foam.

    BackingRH14215.

The RH DW will be attached after the end is siliconed onto the backing.

All I require is two clear days and it should be ready to add the Potting Medium I am guesstimating 100lt+ closer to 120lt.

The exact location will be made at the last minute.

This Terrascape make all the other aquascapes and the mini Terrascape look like "Child's play"

It caught up with me later today I Cat napped for close to one hour just before dinner.

Its not the physical work its all the mental work in getting to that stage.

To make things a bit easier I have been doing bits and pieces in the tank and using the Vacuum to clean the mess out.

Expecting weather to be in the low 30s next week making it a lot easier to work outside.

One of the concerns coming up very soon will be lining inside the caves.

Two thoughts make a wall using small river stones, siliconed together or, filling the area with the same backing using the Gorilla glue.

I have a few days to work that one out.

The few who have actually seen what I have been doing all ask the same question " What are the numbers for" I can honestly say it would be practically impossible to do with out numbers or some form of markings.

Keith I'm a hipacrite but take it easy, I'm totally the same and as the project starts coming together I get excited about the next stage.

Mentally you can see how much design work is involved.

Stones or medium? Personal I would have the medium so it's blends in.

Big rest today a few things to do in the morning and most of the afternoon spent with the Eye Specialist, just a few more concerns.

Trying new drops to lower the pressure if that does not work number 13 eye Opp coming up decision in six weeks time.

Backing medium only problem all the caves I have been in have rocky and earthy walls.

I could make up a mix of river stones up to 10mm with just a dash of sieved medium mix, tomorrow morning is test run day no harm in experimenting.

Trying to fix/secure the RH cave entrance is causing a few concerns, that has to be fixed tomorrow.

I consider myself very lucky with design I can visualise the finish product before I start and prepared to change/improve as I go along.

With this Terrascape I am trying to create nature in a scaled down version.

I can change the planting any time but all the backing etc once its finished no going back.

One reason to take it slowly in fact very slowly.

Roy we always say KIS but in this case its far from it yet when finished it should look basic but very natural.
